SUPERYACHT QUALIFICATIONS FOR A CHEF

QUALIFICATIONS TO WORK AS A CHEF ON A SUPERYACHT

Food is one of the most memorable things that a charter guest or an owner of a yacht will always remember. The Chef plays an incredibly important role and is one of the key figures on board.

There are many different chef positions:

  • Head Chef
  • Sous Chef
  • Crew Chef
  • Chef de Partie
  • Sole Chef

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Must have previous experience working as a head or sous chef in the hospitality sector
  • Excellent knowledge on food safety, storage, general health standards, and nutrition
  • Menu planning, varied repertoire, and wine knowledge
  • Should be flexible and able to perform well under pressure
  • Vast knowledge on all produce, to be able to cater to restricted diets and food allergies
  • Able to adhere to budgets and to plan menus based on monetary restrictions
  • Excellent creativity and presentation skills

Required Certifications

  • MCA STCW Basic Safety Certification is essential for this role
  • Food & Hygiene Level I & II
  • Extra Certifications
  • Superyacht Culinary Academy (Cape Town, South Africa)
  • Bangkok Thai Cooking Academy (Bangkok & Phuket, Thailand)
  • Barcelona Sea Academy
  • Pastry Apprenticeships/ Courses
