SUPERYACHT QUALIFICATIONS FOR DECKHANDS

JMS Careers will be concentrating on supporting our own regarding the different crew positions on board a yacht.

The roles which will be featured are:

  • Exterior Manager

#1. A DECKHAND

This position in a yacht crew will have many responsibilities, but most importantly is maintain the exterior of the yacht and keep it in pristine condition at all times.

  • must be willing to respect the hierarchy of the vessel
  • gain product knowledge
  • keep the exterior immaculate at all times
  • as a greenie, ask as many questions as possible to learn more quickly
  • must be a team player
  • willingness to help is key

Required Skills and Experience

  • General seafaring skills are a must
  • Deckhands should ideally have some knowledge and experience of navigation, boat handling, engines and radio equipment
  • Having previous experience in hospitality, sailing and watersports is beneficial
  • Required Certifications
  • STCW (including Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention, Elementary First Aid, Personal Safety and Social Responsibility and Proficiency in Security Awareness)
  • ENG1 (UK flag-state medical examination, performed by an MCA recognised Doctor)
  • RYA PowerBoat Licence Level I & II (drive a vessel up to 10m)

  • IYT Efficient Deckhand Training Course
  • MCA Yacht Rating Certificate
  • Yachtmaster
  • Advanced PowerBoat Licence
